When women have money, we thrive
Welcome! I am Maura Madden, CFP® and I am a feminist financial planner and educator. I help midlife women take control of their finances because that changes everything…personally and collectively. When women control their finances, we control our own lives. We experience greater freedom. We are better able to care for ourselves and our families and make an impact in our communities.
It is my experience that the mainstream financial industry is based upon competition, exclusive language, and the existing patriarchal structure. Wealth in our society was supposed to be for middle and upper-class white men. Historically, this is who owned and controlled the money when our existing financial structures and institutions were created.
Many firms are structured to work only with those who already have wealth. Much of the focus in financial planning is centered on the issues that typically matter to men. It is expected that everyone will have a certain level of financial education.
At Maura Madden Financial Planning I do things differently. I understand that you want to work with someone you can trust. You want to work with someone who won’t condescend or talk down to you. My goal is to build up your knowledge and confidence regarding money. I don’t want to shame you into following someone else’s plan for your future.
Who I work with
Maura Madden Financial Planning is a Registered Investment Advisor (RIA), registered in Washington State. Though I am registered in Washington, I can work with People anywhere in the United States, excluding Louisiana. Unfortunately, I am unable to work with individuals in other countries. Due to the extensive differences in taxes, retirement savings, and health care, I recommend locating a financial advisor located in your own country.
Though I have a special affinity for working with women, I do certainly work with people of all genders. This includes both individuals and couples. My best-fit clients are those interested in working in a compassionate, collaborative, feminist environment, regardless of their gender(s).
If you want to take control of your money, I can help. There are two main ways to work with me:
Your Flourishing Financial Future
Comprehensive financial planning for all of the areas of your life. One way to talk about this is retirement planning. But it is so much more than just retirement. Your Flourishing Financial Future involves managing your risks, protecting your loved ones, and planning for large pre-retirement expenses (college, auto replacement, new home, etc.). Let’s put together your plan for now and your plan for later.

One Big Thing
I provide project-based services to help you with that one big thing that requires some work and strategy. If you are not ready to take on your flourishing financial future00 but need more than an SOS call, then this may be for you. Some examples of project-based services include saving for college, plans to consolidate and pay down debt, insurance analysis, investment recommendations, and social security claiming strategies. We will figure out how long it will take and build a container to work together.
To learn more about One Big Thing, or if you are uncertain which of my services may be the best fit for you, please schedule a call so that we can discuss your needs.
Cost
The patriarchy uses secrecy and shame around money as a tool for retaining power and control. I want to break down these harmful conventions. I am committed to full transparency, including price transparency.
At Maura Madden Financial Planning I charge hourly at a flat rate of $300 per hour. I do not sell any products and I will never receive any commissions. As a financial advisor I am a fiduciary, meaning that I am required to act in the best interest of my clients. Charging an hourly rate allows me increased objectivity when recommending financial products and providers. I can address the financial needs of my clients without impacting my own financial well-being.
A principle tenant of feminism is that we should all flourish. This means that I want to help others succeed and I do not wish to take advantage of anyone. By the same token, I must be also resourced and compensated appropriately for my knowledge and services. It is my goal to work with people who hold the same values so we may mutually flourish.
